Your post reminded me of this system, not really time aligned but that could be easily done these days digitally. I'd love to hear that in a cinema!

I would say that open baffle bass is MORE directional (null at the sides) when compared with box bass (omnidirectional at low frequencies) but your observation that open baffle bass has a clear non-resonant quality is spot on. Bass lines are clear and distinct when compared with box bass.

Also LOW Q drivers need more eq. sorry to be so picky.

I also would recommend the www.quarter-wave.com site.

The smallish JE Labs baffle sounds nice with a single driver, plenty of room to fit 2X15" and some horns
