I used a JBL 2226H for most of the last ten years in home hifi with various tube amps. For the most part it's a very smooth speaker that's easy to use. My only complaint was that even though it was 96db eff it still needed a few watts to open up. From what I see, modern prosound woofers are designed to work in as small a box possible with as much power as possible. The 2226H is a little older design that wants a little bigger box. IT's cone is a little dead sounding and likes some power to live'n up. In many homes a few watts means running for the door. If your room is larger and you like to listen a bit louder and you can put 5-10 or more watts into them you'll be happy.

I used them with 2-3 watt amps and they're OK. A 100 watt amp is what they like best.

I've found woofers with larger Vas and looser suspension sound better at low levels. And I think that's one reason why folks here go for some of the Altecs in their homes. I like the Cerwin Vegas I'm using now better then the 2226H in my home but would want the 2226H for prosound. YMMV
