Vented systems augment output by resonance of the vent air mass (or PR) on the box air spring.But for that to happen it takes several cycles to "pump up" to full amplitude, so I'd expect FR to vary a lot with the continuosness of the notes/sound in the region of Fb.
Now contemplate something like a kick drum. From what I can see there's only *one* cycle of the high amplitude mallet strike, so it seems that a vented system would just squirt that strike out of the port (or suck it in) an instant after the driver jumps.
I'm really amazed that they work as well as they do.
