New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

Exciting News!! Meitner DSD player coming (relatively) soon.

I had the opportunity to visit Ed Meitner in Calgary this past week (and I just had a phone confirmation from him) and learned that he has just obtained a license from Philips for their drive mechanism, which now enables him to produce a multi-format capable SACD player utilizing his advanced designs. Briefly, here is what you can expect:

A six channel player/preamp combination with 16/44, DVD Video and Audio (24/96) as well as DSD playback capability. It'll include parts of his now famous Switchman design (six channels out with volume controls). It'll have digital (for separate Dolby and DTS decoders) as well as analog inputs and outputs and will be remote controlled. Everything will be based on Ed's state-of-the-art professional equipment currently used for DSD recordings around the world.

Undoubtedly, this will be a very advanced design and expected availability is late 2002 (in time for the CES) and the price is expected to be reasonable (less than $5,000).

IMO, this will be worth waiting for as it will in all probability set some new standards for digital playback (he's already set new standards in the pro arena).

With great anticipation....
