It allows me to record on a CD-Rom at 24/96kHz and playback on the machine at that bit depth and frequency, but only on the 9600 machine.
It's been years since I've fiddled with it, but I want to say 12 minutes on a 600mb CD-Rom disc, maybe a minute, or two, longer.
For Kal, Michael Fremer records different cartridge/arm combos that he fiddles with, at 24/96, to later go back and revisit the combo's sonic signature. He feels that the higher rez allows him to do this with little fuss and only the cost of some blank discs. He then catalogues them.
