The Band's eponymous SACD

Finally got around to this one, and I'm sure glad I did. This MFSL stereo SACD is worth every premium penny. There is real depth and space around all the instruments and vocals. Every instrument is much clearer in the mix without any added brightness or artificial detail. The bass is no longer a mushy low frequency sound, but delineated notes with leading edges and decay, and real depth of tone. This is so much more real than the so-so Capitol CD, better than I remember the original LP, and even better than the expensive import vinyl I had for a while. I can't imagine any other format that could provide greater fidelity. This old recording is finally revealed to be an accurate representation of a group of musicians playing together, probably live, and having a lot of fun. We're lucky to go along for the ride "across the great divide."

The music is as vital and essential as ever. Every song is a story that draws us in; some funny, some sad. You can hear the emotion in the vocals, whether a joke or a moan. If you care for this music, this is by far the best way to hear it. If you don't care for this music, what IS wrong with you?

I don't like all the remastered old recordings I've heard on SACD, even from MFSL. This one is definitely worthwhile.

Peace,
Tom E
