Went down specially to pick up this SACD last night. It being a HK Sony Music release there is always the suspicion of them (the hk office I mean) taking the easy way out and just doing a transfer from a later generation duplicate master (it's probably a pcm recording to start with).
My worries are allayed.
It sounds sweet and warm, throwing a cavernous soundstage (from the generous use of studio reverb effects) that extends beyond the confines of my living room.
I've often spoken about how refreshing your player before playing optical discs can elevate sound performance to unprecedented stratus, and here being applied to playing this disc, the voice and reverb effects was heard as separate entities, and the voice did not harden timbre from assimilating the reverbs. It is definitely a transfer from early generation studio masters all right.
Shall be comparing against the vinyl pressing in the days to come.
