RE: Bruckner: Symphony No. 4 SACD - DSD Pittsburgh Symphony, Manfred Honeck

I agree with you about this recording - the performance is not only powerful, but also very imaginative. As I'd previously written on another site:
It's a wonderful interpretation IMHO, with a great deal of spontaneity - and some of Honeck's rethinkings of balance (a couple of which he refers to in his booklet notes) are spectacularly successful. I also love the flexibility of tempo in this performance - it certainly enlivens the listening, and I find it very convincing!

I'm a little less sanguine about the SQ - it's a little close-in for my taste, although still very good. I listened to it at about the same time that I finally got around to listening to Harnoncourt's Bruckner 5th with the VPO - that's a recording with a sense of spaciousness that's much more to my taste. But of course so many of our SQ preferences are just personal taste!
