Yes, the S6 is a very sweet car!My 2013 BMW 335xi offers direct digital access to it's car audio system DAC via the Lightning connector from an iPhone or iPod Touch. In other words, I can bypass the iPhone/iPod internal DAC and analog stage completely and feed a digital signal direct from the iPhone/iPod to the USB port inside the arm wrest. It will also display album art on the Nav screen and take voice commands to control playback.
So far I've only tried 16/44 and 24/44 AIFF or ALAC files through the USB port via the iPhone/iPod and it sounds great. [Edit 16Sept: Just tried 24/96 AIFF and it plays fine]. I also stream Spotify, Pandora, or Amazon Music in the car.
I should try putting hi-res files on a USB stick and see what happens. There's also a USB port in the glove box that allows music file transfers from a USB stick to the extra space in the car's Nav system hard disk.
These car infotainment systems keep getting better but instead of relying on the auto makers who are always a couple years behind, my next car will have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto by Google for tighter integration of the smartphone with the car infotainment system. I believe that's the direction the auto industry is going.
