Maybe you should try listening through the Oppo's balanced outputs. My Oppo sounds just fine, but I've never listened to audio through its unbalanced outputs or its HDMI connection. In fact, I turned off its HDMI audio output in the settings menu.
Picture quality on my Oppo BDP-105D is also very nice on my 55" Samsung HDTV.
I guess I'm wondering why anyone would buy an Oppo BDP-105D if they didn't intend to use its balanced audio outputs. That would be pretty stupid in my opinion.
