Jumbo, have you considered a newer CDP that incorporates newer technology and greater levels of musicality?
I ask because as a previous owner of the SCD-1 from about 2002 - 2005, the SCD-1 may look good and appear to have superb build quality, IMO it really offered very little in the way of performance. In fact, at that time, it barely sounded any better than my Sony DVP 9000ES unit which retailed for $1200 compared to the SCD-1's $5000 price tag. And I mean barely.
For example, after several upgrades to newer CDP's, from 2006 to 2014, I settled for an Esoteric UX-3SE unit that retailed for $9k and was easily about 2 leagues more musical than the SCD-1.
But last year I replaced my Esoteric unit with the OPPO BDP-105D at $1299. By the time I took advantage of several of the OPPO's features/options was quite a significant improvement over the Esoteric.
Obviously the SCD-1 and Esoteric units both have considerably more bling bling than the OPPO but if you end up spending $500 - $1000 on repairing your antiquated SCD-1 unit you could have upgraded to something like the OPPO and potentially receive far greater listening pleasures.
Moreover, you may also be on borrowed time keeping the SCD-1 as something else may be about to go on the fritz costing you even more in repairs.
