I don't think you will lose any sound quality. I did this with a Reference Recordings HDCD and it worked just fine. I could hear the difference between playing the HDCD through a DAC without HDCD decoding vs one with HDCD decoding, but I wanted to use the DAC without HDCD decoding. Therefore, I copied the analog output from the HDCD decoding DAC and burned an ordinary 16/44 CD-R. It sounded exactly the same through the non-HDCD decoding DAC as playing the original Reference Recordings HDCD through the HDCD decoding DAC. It worked for me.
