I am not doing a lot of downloading yet. In classical music, which I prefer, there are a number of good sites, and they generally do not foist off uprezzes as hi rez. Limited comparisons I have done seem to indicate the downloads sound slightly but noticeably better than the discs because they come from hard drive/PC and avoid the usual player mechanism. The same goes for rips to hard drive, which sound identical to downloads of the same recording in my experience. I am talking about players like Oppo and Sony 5400. There is just a somewhat more open and relaxed quality to hard drive playback.
