RE: Disclaimer from Sony S1/Z1

I agree it is a strange device in some ways. I like the idea of the hard drive in the player because you don't have to deal with USB etc etc, but no digital out seems silly.

For me the idea of not using a computer appeals to me. OTOH I really find the Mac/Marantz NA11S1 to sound superior in my system than the Sony. It has more "weight and presence" to my ears

The Absolute Sounds proclamation of it being a "game changer" seems a wee bit exaggerated

I have listened to a modded HAPZ1 by Red-Wine audio (I think thats what they are called) and found it minimally different and certainly not worth the asking price of those mods. OTOH Im tempted to install a solid State hard drive in the Sony just because it can be done and would allow me to disconnect the fan in the HAPZ.

Abe I do see your logic. And I do have mixed feelings on the HAPZ. Maybe in the end will go on the market for sale. I have a hard time parting with the Marantz DAC. That genuinely seems a bargain and far superior to the PS Audio Perfect Wave DAC I have before.
