Glad to have a hi-res digital version of Relayer - a favorite Yes album of mine, one that I think has been unfairly overlooked over the years. The 5.1 remix by Wilson is not as revelatory as the ones for Close to the Edge or The Yes Album - much more subtle and in tune with the original - but still very engrossing.
Drums and Wires, on the other hand, takes the opposite tack of the previous XTC 5.1 Nonsuch. While that one worked as an expansion - an opening up - of the original mix, Drums and Wires comes across as an entirely new interpretation of the original. Hits you like a ton of bricks right from the start, on Making Plans for Nigel - the voice is front-and-center, giving it an entirely different cast. I can't wait for English Settlement.
Kudos to Wilson for not reverting to a formula for his surround remixes - he seems to approach each album with a fresh set of ears and no preconceptions or 'tricks.'
Haven't played the stereo mixes yet - as before, new ones by Wilson are included with flat transfers of the originals, all in hi-res.
