The Toslink standard says 24/96 kHz max
But the hardware is often capable of more.
As Joe Murphy Jr stated, if both have good quality components it probably works.
At least in my case (iMac/Win8 > Benchmark DAC1) 24/192 works most of the time. Sometimes I get static.
