As I said, I'm not religious about any particular recording technology, but this oft-heard dictum is not wholly convincing to me. It would seem to imply that any retail copy of a Keith Johnson (say) recording is more or less as good as another (even an MP3 or cassette tape?). When several consumer versions of the same master are available (as is often the case with audiophile favorites) to be played on a more-than-mid-fi system, which one should be chosen? The dictum offers no help here.
