Crackpot suggestion (again)

I have mentioned this before on this forum, and I offer it once again. Read no further if you have been here before. I had the same problem years ago and fixed it, similar to Audio Snob, by vacuuming out the transport bay with a crevice tool, paying particular attention to the right hand side where the laser assembly is located. It is risk free and worth a try. You can escalate to Audio Snob's fix if the vacuum fails. And rather than risk a botched job from the Laredo Sony gorillas, you can send it to Bill Thalmann at Music Technology in Virginia, who has acquired a very good rep for SCD-1 and 777 repair and mods. I'll bet he would be happy to talk to you on the phone about the problem. Let us know how it turns out.
