Those impedance numbers are recommended load impedances. No balanced or unbalanced output impedances would be that high. In the 5400, Sony does maintain balanced mode from the DAC to the XLR's. The unbal outs have their own buffer, with an output impedance of probably less than 100 ohms.
In the Vacuum State upgrades that I've done to the 5400, we maintain that balanced configuration as well. Output impedance of that circuit is under 50 ohms. All this is fairly typical of CD players in general.
