You can find outstanding DACs today for well under two grand.

I absolutely love the sound of my PS Audio NuWave DAC ($1000 MSRP) playing 16/44 material and it also handles higher resolution files, but not DSD. For standard PCM playback I set it to native, non-upsampling mode and it sounds great!

Why wait for the "DSD download nonsense' to fizzle out? That niche should have no influence over your choices and decision to buy a great basic DAC today. Several exist at reasonable prices.
