Home Hi-Rez Highway

New high resolution SACD releases, players and technology.

RE: Ever have a hybrid SACD whose CD layer sounds better?

I would attribute the difference to the type of the CD players. The Marantz is SS the Raysonic is tubed. I have a Raysonic 128 as well as a Marantz 11sa3. They sound nothing alike. In my system the Marantz is a bit more revealing and crisp through the mid/upper-mid range, the Raysonic is more relaxed. The Marantz is a bit rolled off in the highs, the Raysonic not so much so. It may be counter intuitive but even with the de-emphasized highs the Marantz sounds more dynamic. BTW, tube selection in the Raysonic is a big deal. With one amp I like EI's, with another amp (slightly cooler in tone) I prefer Tesla's.

FWIW, I really haven't got involved in the SACD thingee yet. If I like the performance or recording I find I'm not listening for the differences and if I don't I take off the disc.
