But I'd also consider a older, discontinued model I could mess with and not worry about voiding the warranty. Again, just for audio.

I may end up with the higher priced Mac Mini, but not primarily for audio.

Right now, the current Mac Mini line is getting long in the tooth so I'm waiting and hoping for a processor/graphics upgrade.
