For the most part I agree

Of course, with the 50s/60s reissues we have the benefit of hindsight with our purchases. We know for the most part that the performances are great or at least good. Or we can download the performances to get a sneak preview. New releases on the other hand are a gamble just like they would have been if you were buying records in the 50s/60s with the benefit of preview. For every great jazz recording that we know about today there are hundreds and hundreds that were boring or not well performed and certainly not well recorded.
