RE: Rich's Sony 5400 fix

I haven't shipped the 5400 yet. Just after I posted about it, I applied for/recieved authorization to have it fixed at Sony Laredo, TX.

There was a problem with them sending me a shipping label...after 3 emails, 3 online exchanges and a phone call (over 2 weeks time) I was finally told I needed to go through the repair authorization process again to get a shipping label sent to my email.

- That says a lot about Sony's customer service. It is you, me, and many others here at AA that early on put our hard earned money out and supported their format / product. Many of us, myself included, did so without the ability to first listen to it before buying it. We foolishly trusted the opinions of the writers of Stereophile and TAS, didn't we? It is ironic how Stereophile recently had poked fun at "perfect sound forever." Shame many times over for the treatment you have received from Sony's non-service. And to the rags for first misleading us in order to promote a format, only to now backstep, perfect sound..., in order to regain credibility.

I have been side tracked and busy with other things... (spending alot more time with my daughter as it's now Track season) and eventually will go through the process again.

- Three words: "You go girl." Don't forget about your need for the music that you love and makes you happy.

As for the SCD-1, I would rather not sell it, it is in such nice condition/low use and having collected all the important Sony replacement parts to insure that it operates indefinitely, but, cash is tight. Actually, I did purchase the 5400 last November with the intention of paying for it by selling the SCD-1 and using the remaining $$ from the sale, for my home, or a list of other needs.

- It all comes down to which player sounds better in the present form to you. As you are selling the CD-1, I trust the answer would be the 5400. From what I have read here from respected listeners, you among them, the 5400 most probably sounds better in stock form. Sad as the 1 and 777 are such beautiful pieces of electronics. Another shame that Sony did everything right, yet foolishly chose to compromise on the output section. The output section that I ended up with probably would have ultimately cost less than the one that Sony chose for both players and would have been both yours and my final player as it should have / could have, been.
