When you are using HDMI, sure I don't expect a lot of difference between Oppo and Sony. All of the processing is handled by your processor, and with HDMI, quality of transport matters even less than with CD.
The point, most likely Sony DACs will be better than 90% of pre/pro DACs decoding DSD - that's why people prefer going the analogue route. I know in my case Sony XA9000ES DACs do a lot better job with SACD than my Marantz 8003 pre/pro doing the work via HDMI for Sony Bluray player.
I haven't tried setting Bluray player to convert DSD to PCM, and have Marantz decode it that way in case it's PCM DACs better than its DSD abilities.
But it has nothing to do with some sort of hidden love/hate relationship with Sony, this is simply a demand for a high quality purpose built (no moving fans) SACD m/ch player.
