RE: Tommy did you try the Wadia 581iSE in system 1 or 2?

Here we go again. A guy with two very good systems, WAY beyond anything that "normal" (sorry Tommytunes - not saying anything about you personally!) people have, yet without careful mix and match the systems aren't up to your standard for playing back SACD's. How are the common folk going to get the benefit of the universal multi layer SACD's that you're pushing for (and you do often say they'll be seduced by the better sound of high res) on the systems that most people play back music through? Let me quote you from another post, "SACD/CD hybrids need to be of NEW MUSIC especially Pop, Rock, Rap and Hip Hop released as soon as there is radio and TV play. In other words when they are HOT!!!!! You do this and the majority will want SACDs for the music, for the high resolution and for the multichannel sound." You suggest they'll want SACD's for the high resolution but they're listening through systems that don't hold a candle to systems that by your logic aren't up to showing the qualities of SACD. Get consistent please.

Also, you're taking a huge leap of faith in trusting that quoted specifications (in the case of speakers often measured at 1m in a anechoic situation) will be sustained in a home environment. Have you ever looked at JA's 1m measurements in stereophool and then the in-room measurements?

For example, the YG Acoustics Anat Reference is close to flat out to 30Khz on axis when measured quasi-anechoically at 50", but when measured in Wes Phillips Room at normal listening distance and with room furnishings absorbing high frequencies it's about 10db down at 20kHz.

Another - Burmester B25 spec'd to 45kHz (+-3db) measured anecholically flat to 30kHz, in room -7db at 30kHz.

Just because something is specified out to a given frequency doesn't mean it produces that in room. Most Electronics will do just fine, but speakers in a typical room often don't.
