Keep in mind that there are die-hard proponents of both surround and two-channel. Kal probably has a surround system working at the zenith of its potential, while many of us prefer to work with similarly hi rez two-channel. I think you really need to seek to hear the best of both and then decide which camp you "belong" in. You'll know pretty clearly if you can get a chance to hear two equally well put together systems in each format.
I'm a two-channel guy, mainly because that's they way I hear most music performed. I hear surround when I sit in the trumpet section of a symphony orchestra, but no recording that I know of has ever been made from that perspective and, while it'd be exciting to hear, it's not a complete picture of the composer's intentions.
