Given the strong interest in this new SACD player, my very long-standing interest in anything SACD related, and since Blue Light Audio is just across town from PFO Central here in Portland, OR, I contacted Jonathan Tinn about the MPS-5. He has kindly consented to provide a review sample to me here by next weekend. (Also on hand: The EMM Labs CDSD SE/DCC2 SE, the Marantz SA-7S1, the Teac Esoteric DV-60, the Linn Unidisk 1.1, and the Halcro EC800.)
I've currently got an mbl system in place in my stereo room (see the link below, top of the page, for description and photos of my listening arrays), so will have highly resolving playback for the Playback.
;-)
I will say that I have been to Mikel's listening room and consider it to be exceptional. He has invested very heavily in his audio education, and knows what "really good" sounds like; I respect his informed opinion. His enthusiasm for the MPS-5 is therefore noteworthy.
The fact that Ted Smith, whom I consider to be credible, is also impressed with the MPS-5 underlined the significance of this new design.
I'll be publishing my initial impressions at PFO ASAP, and will also share some thoughts here at AA's HRH.
All the best,
david
