Just goes to show you are crawling out from under a rock. If you are an "audiophile" as you claim to be, you would know that companies like DCS and Goldmund have been making statement digital front ends for quite some time. Far more than 15K. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but when you live in a capatilist society the market determines what the price of a product is. Not Teresa, Ozzy or Mike Lavigne.
