I live in an area that does not allow me much auditioning. So when I bought the M5 it was based on what I could find out on forums, reviews, etc... But between a review or 2, stuff I found on Audiogon, and the general opinion of the Master Series, I bought the M5. A few thought it was better then the Marantz S15 and S11. Once you sort thru all the Audio bull shit, like "it sucks", "and it blew away" I thought it was the way to go. Beyond this your heading over 2 grand for SACD/CD, which was were one guy was headed for an Esoteric/Ayre/Cary, after owning the M5. I also did not want a Universal Player at this price range to avoid any extra issues, and wanted the best in SACD/CD. I also bought an NAD T515 for a good deal. This does a real nice job as a 2 channel DVD-Audio and Video machine, so I am covered on the few DVD-A I own.

Another point, NAD is always well thought of in general. But the Master Series is extremely well thought of. The build quality is considered excellent, by supposedly those that "know". China anymore means nothing, as it's who controls and runs the QC at the plant that matters. Many of the current Audiophile darlings are made in China. I prefer US made, like my MAC stuff. But the MAC 201 CD/SACD has had tons of problems at $3500.00, so have many other high end units. But NAD as part of Lenbrook in Canada, with PSB Speakers and others is at least Canadian.

Another point is the Master Series has a 3 years parts and labor not 2. So you do have quite a bit of warranty. I would call NAD and be firm.

My unit was built in January 07, has been working fine the last week + I have owned it. Does everything it is supposed to. I am not good at reviewing, and will not attempt. But to my ears in my system, MAC amp and preamp and Tetra speakers sounds wonderful. Lots of bass, not bright, smooth. Also the NAD T515 does a great job with my few DVD-Audio discs for the money.

Anybody have a firmware or transport update timeline ??
