I had a different set of problems with my M55. Yes, the first firmware upgrade they made me take the unit back to the store (this was to fix a problem with DVD-A playback). When the unit finally started acting finnicky (just pausing in the middle of discs, skipping, etc) NAD replaced the unit. (I upgraded firmware 2 other times and both times they overnighted the discs to me.) Yes, the first unit was an OLD one. Looked brand new, but this one failed completely in less than 30 days. I then demanded that they replace it with a brand new unit, which they did. The new unit has a different transport (I can tell by the firmware version) and has been working fine for the last 8 months.
I found NAD to be very helpful and willing to resolve the issues I was having. I can't say that I was happy with all of the issues. Maybe I've been spoiled by the fact that I have a 20 year old SONY ES CD player and an NAD Stereo receiver in my 2nd system. I just do not expect equipment at this price to fail.
