Have you thought about sending it in to Sony for service/repair?
Since you are close to their Texas facility it wouldn't cost you much to ship and they pay return.
They will clean, replace worn parts and update software for you, at what seems in today's marketplace a very fair price. Details can be had on the website. Also search the archives here to get a better idea on what to expect and what to ask for.
But again, do a search to get a better understanding of what to expect, as in some cases there were problems that arose(mainly do to shipping damages) that Sony did take responsibility for and corrected. ;)
