There are loads of cds stores in Amsterdam, but most are part of a chain called "Free Record Shop" or "Van Leest" they also have a bigger store called Fame Music this one is on "de Kalverstraat" near Maddame Toussaut and the Royal Palace on "de Dam".
Live music can be pretty hard to get tickets to. But there are some small places like "de Melkweg" and "Paradiso", bigger artists and bands can be found at the "Heineken Music Hall". For your classical fix you can always try to get into "Het Concertgebouw" and "Stopera".
Go to "het Leidseplein" in the evenings, lots of bars filled with both locals and tourist.
The Netherlands is a pretty small country and you can easly get to different towns by public transport.
And don't forget a Coffee Shop isn't the place to go and get a cup of coffee in the Netherlands.
