Your words re:vinyl vs CD are pretty wise, and i appreciate that....
However, a big stone that blocks the doorway for me, is that vinyl only lasts a few plays, (no matter how well you clean it, - {another PITA}. OK, maybe it lasts more than a few, - let's say, 10 to 15?, before it's overwhelmed by Snap, Crackle, and POP.
I for one, am never going to spend $25,000 just so I can listen past the scraping. I have some favorite CDs, - the Sex Pistols, - that I can play over and over and over again and never hear any surface noise... just the other kind of noise.. (yes, I'm kidding, mostly).
Again, just my super opinionated, obnoxious, opinion, but I thought that the redbook quality of the SA 1 was bad enough to consider the product a "rip-off." Which, I almost NEVER do in expensive, high end gear: (given the vastly different tonal character(s) and goals of high end products).
Marantz must've really stepped up to the plate here and made VAST improvements in their work to earn your well respected praise; and your opinion is what makes me really want to hear it.
Cheers,
I know that you think that you know what I said, but do you realize that what I said was not what I meant?
