IMO,
In any SACD player, SACD must be an afterthought only. SACD players should be purchased, 80% value, of their redbook capability.
The experience that I've had with the Marantz SA1 was that the Redbook was a total POS: dark, sloppy, recessed, muddy.
Of course, my experience could be distorted by the ancillary components and systems. Depending on the room and what the player is working with, - a more neutral player may be better, or a warmer one..
I do find the hype around here surrounding the Marantz products a bit over the top; with all of the hyperbole, one would think that they've got a Meitner or an Audio Aero level player: sheesh....
I know that you think that you know what I said, but do you realize that what I said was not what I meant?
