I think your generalizing, claiming that ALL vinyl playing 'philes will prefer vinyl over digital despite the cost, and based only on tonal deviations.
Perhaps unexperienced 'philes might lean towards a the more vibrant (seductive?) colorations of vinyl ... but certainly ... truly experienced 'philes (who appreciate both formats) will lack bias, and understand the differences between tonality & other important aspects of musicality.
The performance of any format is a matter of execution. If Im allowed to generalize, vinyl offers a wider tonal range because as a physical medium it tends to add harmonics, while digital tends to dry harmonics. Therefore, when both are properly executed, the best of both formats should (and do) sound near identical, in that they both strive to attain the most natural tonality.
However, past tonal issues, differences in other aspects of musicality remain, and its "those" differences (such as superior dynamic capability) that define vinyls true advantage(s).
