Well, I know a guy who bought a Marantz SA-7S1 but sold it because in his view it wasn't as good as his modified Marantz CD95, and this was comparing SACD on the SA-7S1 with CDs on the CD95.

Haven't heard the SA-7S1 myself, but I did hear a CD player which in my opinion bested a Marantz SA-1 playing SACDs a few years ago so I've been wary of hyped Marantz players ever since, believing that it's possibly the HDAMs which impart a certain analogue quality to the sound which can be seductive.
