I must say it was an enjoyable first rate performance (but nothing unusual or unexpected). Actually, I did not focus on Dudamel nearly as much as the reporter seem to indicate that the sold out audience was doing. To be sure, Dudamel was the reason I was there that evening, and I did check him out specifically on a few occasions, but I was far more drawn on the various sections of the orchestras, the mega roles of the soloists, and the boundless multi-layered colorations generated by the score and so finely implemented by the orchestra.
I must say that Dudamel is one of the most "athletic" conductors I have seen, but not at all distracting. I did hear "stomping" like noises coming from the podium on a couple of occasions, but nothing like the low frequency thumping noises I have heard on the Exton Tchaikovsky "Manfred Symphony" with Kobayashi conducting.
I had good, but not great, seats. ($69 which are probably midrange)
