Tuan:
Following the instructions given on a website with extensive mod advice for the 8260, I did only the two simplest things. I bypassed the rather complex muting circuit at the output of the main two channels and replaced this circuitry with a high-quality 75-ohm resistor. It amazed me to see many caps and resistors the final signal had to go through to get out of the unit just so that there was a muting circuit. Removing it results in a faint click at turn-on and start. I also replaced the output coupling caps with high-quality Black Gates, just about the only high quality ones that will fit in the small space.
The sound became more transparent and somehow seemed to lose a very slightly rolled-off character as if sharp transients were softened. It now sounds "faster" and cleaner. Overall it was like the unit was simply several notches up in overall quality. The parts only cost around $15, and i did it myself.
A frequent poster here was extremely helpful with his comments and encouragement in this undertaking, another great example of how valuable this place can be.
