I do not have the MLP redbook recording of Dorati conducting the Liszt Preludes. So I cannot comment directly on that. However, if you are referring to the MLP Dorati performance of the Enesco and Liszt Rhapsodies, I can only say that a lot depends on the system you are using for playing such extended range redbook CDs.
I have a modded Denon DCM280 CDP and a JVC 5000 CD single bit recorder/player connected via RCA analog cables to a Marantz 2265B receiver and JBL L100 speakers. The Marantz vintage receivers matched with JBL speakers are well known for their warm tube-like sound. Also, both the Denon and JVC have a warmer sound than most CDPs. I play most of my redbook CDs through this system, and they do not sound harsh or edgy.
However, I do have several DVD/CD players, including the highly-rated OPPO 970 universal player, and, if I play the MLP CDs through these players without the aid of an external DAC, they will sound harsh and too bright. I use the OPPO 970 universal player connected via optical or coax cables to an external DAC and a Yamaha receiver for listening to several SACD and DVD-A discs with excellent results.
One of the disadvantages of SACD and DVD-A discs is that so far there are no DVD/CDR drives available for computers that are capable of playing them. As a result, you cannot rip them in their hirez format to a PC hard drive. I am presently ripping most of my CDs to an external hard drive in WAV or FLAC formats. In general, the playback of such archived files can sound even better than using a CD player.

Barney
