I don't much about the 3 violin concertos performed here, one each from Khachaturian, Prokofiev, and Glazunov. So I won't say much here except to say that for classical music lovers this disc is a "must have" for both sound and performance.

These concertos, while I have heard each of them at least once (and probably only once except for the Prokofiev that I have also heard live), I don't "know" these pieces. So, I won't say much this time around. But these concertos are very different in a positive and inventive way than what you will find from Mozart, Beethoven, or Brahms. AND they are very different for each other. They each bring so much to the table with respect to tones, orchestration, cadenzas, pacing, etc., reflecting very different composers. Each of these concertos has a wonderful balance of complexity and sheer excitement. You can't just listen to these concertos only once or twice and expect to appreciate even a modicum of what they have to offer. So far I have listened to this disc 3 times.

And, hey, Julia Fischer is da bomb. What more can I say?

Several months ago I made a broad statement that I found that Pentatone SACDs lacked the best sound compared to some others other labels, especially with respect to "weight" and dynamic range. Someone here politely challenged my conclusion. So, I took another listen and found that I had lumped the older Pentatone transfers with their newly recorded DSD SACDs. I'm so glad that someone called me on it, because my initial conclusion was *wrong*. The 5 or 6 Pentatone disc I have since purchased hold their on all levels both in two channel and multi-channel, and for this disc, both for capturing Julia Fischer and the very accomplished Russian National Orchestra.

Sorry for being, non specific about the virtues on the performance on this disc. Maybe I will take a shot at that next time.
