Wow. Would you believe that just last night because of the memory that you invoked below that I dug deep and found a Coaster's Greatest hits LP on Atco label (subsidiary of Atlantic) that I purchased more than 30 years ago that has "Shopping for Clothes".
I remember one of my uncles use to really love that record. I will always remember that spinning Atco label. And guess what? Last night I shared it, along with some of the more familiar Coaster hits, with my 16 year old son. He *loved* it.
Of course, I botched the words below. The lyrics are a lot more poetic, tuneful, and reflected that unique Coasters “situation comedy”. I had not heard the song in decades although I believe it was used, in part, in a recent Eddie Murphy movie.
To add a bit to the trivia aspect, taken from the LP liner notes, the two lead singers of the Robins, at the urging of Lieber and Stoller left the group and formed a separate group called the "Coasters" after their West Coast origins. The Robins actually existed a few more years (co-existing with the Coasters) and had a couple of R&B hits but never crossed over.
