Re: Sony no longer stocks the sled motor??

The "sled motor" is a regular, standard size DC motor as found in many CD and DVD players. The tricky part would be removing the pulley from the old one and installing it on the new one, but that shouldn't be that hard.

My biggest concern would be the Laser Pick-up availability. It should be noted that Sony stocks/supplies spare parts for 7 years from the product release date after which the parts are no longer available. It's a Sony policy. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, the parts are available longer than 7 years. Sometimes parts become NLA earlier, especially in low volume products such as SCD-1 and X777ES. In that case you should be eligible to exchange your old product for similar current product at discounted price (at the current "technology advancement" rate you'll be probably offered an iPod or similar :-)), but then again it's a management call at Sony. :-)

Regards,
Alex
