"the better up-sampling works the tinner the sound can be because it is expanding the bandwith which will bring out the noise on red-book cd's with strong brickwall filtering,"Nope, you have this front-to-back, strictly speaking upsampling on it own cannot expand your bandwidth (except if used with noiseshaping) and as a result cannot make the resulting sound thinner. Also upsampling negates the necessity for strong brickwall filtering.
