I have been advised that the Dire Straits "Brothers In Arms SA-CD hybrid includes HDCD encoded into the CD layer.
The first question to ask -does the CD layer originate from the previous HDCD/16bit PCM master
rather than utilising Direct SBM from the stereo DSD master. This leads to the question can the CD layer of a SACD hybrid which stems from a DSD master also include HDCD encoding. [Was this the case in this remaster]
ie can the CD layer both be "Direct SBM and also include HDCD.As far as I'm concerned I don't know why an engineer/producer would bother with HDCD encoding, as I gather Direct SBM also offers 20 bit equivalent resolution
and the stereo DSD program [if remastered properly] would be equivalent to 24 bit
far exceeding HDCD's 20 bit equivalent resolution
