On my personal opinion, stock SA-14 outperform 777es in both SACD as well as CD modes. Both mashines requires extensive break-in periods. My first 250 hours was almost entirely in SACD mode and CD while was good was sill not exceptional. Now (about 500 hours) SACD became simply unbeliveble and CD became excellent. The most important difference between SA-14 and both 777es and (modified)9000es is that Marantz sound is extremely musical and involving ("seductive"). There are other differences as well. I suspect that modified 777es is equal or even outperform stock SA-14. I wonder if anyone can comment.
