I find this post very interesting. I just bought this piece in DVD-A. I seriously considered the SACD version as I prefer SACD to DVDA in general. (I use an Integra DPS-8.3 universal player) I chose the DVDA due to the native recording in 5 ch 24/96. Perhaps the artifacts you found relate to the conversion to DSD from the original format?The DVDA exhibits none of the abrasive nature that you attribute to it when played on my Orion system and it sounds extremely well recorded and performed.
