Okay, here are my complete Bob Dylan two-channel SACD sonics rankings. I’ve also included a “performance†ranking without regard to sonics. And finally, I list several Dylan albums I’d like to hear on SACD.DYLAN TWO-CHANNEL SACD SONICS:
1. “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan†(shockingly revelatory – do not miss this one!)
2. “Oh Mercy†(luxuriously warm and involving; can be bass-heavy at times)
3. “Planet Waves†(earthy, organic, and immensely satisfying)
4. “Infidels†(fast, clean, and open)
5. “Love and Theft†(but for the truncated top-end extension, this could have been in the top three)
6. “Bringing it All Back Home†(amazing sound; occasionally too ‘hot’ on top)
7. “Another Side of Bob Dylan†(only blemish is a hint of vocal mike distortion)
8. “Nashville Skyline†(wonderfully musical and a massive upgrade from the old CD)
9. “Blonde on Blonde†(more spacious and detailed than the original SACD)
10. “Blood on the Tracks†(evolutionary improvement over the Limited Millennium Ed. CD)
11. “Slow Train Coming†(full-spectrum sound that suffers from over-production)
12. “Highway 61 Revisited†(lots of detail but lacks dynamics)
13. “Street Legal†(flat and unexciting)
14. “Desire†(distorted vocals and crud in the mix)
15. “John Wesley Harding†(the painfully shrill harmonica kills it)
