Wow.To answer your question, I suspect I'd hate it if I had to do it for a living. Stop and think about it for a minute. The ongoing search for new adjectives and phrases alone to describe what one hears would drive one nuts, and I suspect I'd wind up like Robert Redford's Bill McKay in the 1970's movie, "The Candidate," where McKay--after several weeks of stumping California--is reduced, in the back seat of a car, to mumbling and parodying every catch phrase he's used to seduce the voters.
And, audiophile though I may be, I suspect that the "dream job" of reviewing the "newest and best" is a be-careful-what-you-wish-for. I'm not enamored of schlepping in and setting up new gear every few weeks to hear--on the same "reference" recordings time after time-- this or that nuance that may or may not be meaningful. That's not why I'm in this hobby. I'd rather spend that setup (and teardown and break-in and settling) time listening.
Nonetheless, I do appreciate your very kind words.
BTW, the St. George Hotel (and that damned subway, or whatever it is) comes off extremely well with the new mods in place as I listen to Bernstein's Gershwin. :-)
