Please don't buy DVD-A: At least not yet.

I know many of us have said this, but it bears repeating. At this stage in the lifecycles of SACD and DVD-A, we have a significant influence. At a later stage that influence will fade to black, but for now we have an influence.

It has been pointed out that Sony representative(s) lurk and have an interest in this forum. This may also be true for those from the DVD-A camp as well. This indicates that we have some importance in the early-adoption phase and that it is recognised.

Therefore, unless you like the idea of Verance watermarks and dynamically mixed-down two track from multi-channel, it would be best to consider the effect of your purchases at this time. Purchasing SACD hardware and software has not gone unnoticed, and will continue to be noticed. Also, your purchases of DVD-A hardware and software is also being noticed.

If the purest possible source is what an audiophile is after, it is self-defeating to support an inferior format (in execution if not in theory due to watermarks and dynamic mixdown) through purchasing DVD-A.

Please avoid DVD-A purchases and lets keep supporting the one format designed from a purist perspective (with respect to sound quality.) If you really love the music in its full glory it is important to not support the inferior format.

To go a step further, consider showing your support by encouraging non-audiophiles. Many people will hear the difference, given the opportunity. Let's help stoke a renaissance of interest in what reproduced music can be, and in the process share our passion with friends and relatives. Bring people over and let them hear what a pure DSD or analog to DSD recording sounds like.

For the mediocre to thrive, requires only that people who know better do nothing. (With acknowledgments to Plato for my rephrasing of his statement about evil.)
